California Redwood Garden

Last weekend I had the opportunity to visit an artist in the Catskills who has an entire field of giant California Redwood tree trunks that he carved and sculpted by hand.  These trunks were by-products  of the logging industry in California during the early nineteen hundreds.  Each sculpture is ten to fifteen feet tall and they are arranged in rows that makes you think of Stonehenge or Rapa Nui.  These tree trunks could be thousands of years old and each capable of weights into the tons.  As a former resident of Northern California, I have fond memories of these trees and it is nice to see their beauty restored and made timeless by the artist.   I will hopefully be revisiting soon and have some ideas about future projects here.  I will have more images posted throughout the week including some macro and close up frames.
